As botanist Maria Jesus explains, Joshua trees are threatened throughout their range in California, especially in the south. Conglomerate Mesa lies at the northern end of their range and the Joshua trees there are much more likely to survive the coming changes in climate.

The Conglomerate Mesa Coalition is surveying the Joshua trees along the path of a proposed mining exploration to advocate for their protection.
